Incredible journey through the Civil WarThis compilation of David Jackson Logan's writings detailing his experiences during the Civil War is second to none! You won't be able to put this outstanding book down until you've finished it. The authors have melded all sources into an unforgettable book.
Outstanding coverage of life in the war! This book does an outstanding job of following David Jackson Logan's life during the Civil War, through letters to his wife and family, letters to the newspaper, and his diary. I am fortunate to have already known what an outstanding man David Jackson Logan was, as well as, his father, John Randolph Logan, and his siblings. Especially David's brother Ben F. Logan, my great-great grandfather. I hope everyone enjoys reading this incredible book.

The Tool Book (Smith & Hawken)
Published in Hardcover by Workman Publishing Company (October, 1997)
Average review score:

A good book for choosing garden toolsIf you are a beginning gardener and don't know the difference between a shovel and a spade, or what to use them for, this book is immensely useful. It is certainly worth the price and the time it takes to browse through it to find and understand the exact tools you will need for your individual garden before you go out shopping. In addition to pages of full color pictures of each tool, it contains historic accounts regarding the tools and some nice quotes about gardening. After reading this book I felt like I understood garden tools, whereas prior to reading it, I just used tools in a haphazard way without understanding their purpose and how they could help me in the garden.
Truly wonderfulA piece of art, fits the coffee table and yet is packed with valuable information

Windows 98 Made Easy

A computer book both thorough AND comprehensible. Many books on computers are either insulting to one's intelligence or, at the other extreme, full of techno-babble. This book is written in the middle ground. It is clear, thorough, and concise. The authors anticipate your questions and answer them all in a step-by-step progression. As an avowed sufferer of techno-phobia, I HIGHLY recommend it. It will cure you of your worst computer fears.
Marvelous tool for someone who has little computer knowledgeThis is an excellent book for the first time computer user. My Dad is 72, and just got a computer. It has been a great tool for him. Real hands on, illustrated instructions. It is also helping me with areas of the computer that I don't normally use.

World of the Pharaohs

Thanks Ms. HobsonI always believed ancient Egyptian culture is the zenith point of the human kind on its age, their culture was far beyond complex than we believed, and gave birth to greek culture and roman empire's culture and nourished comtemporary cultures.
This book is an essential for an ancient egypt culture beginner and more, even it's an intermediate book for egypt it's very good on making you grasp egyptian heritage chronologically, informative and clear, easy reading. Very good covering of ancient egyptian culture.
I definetely recommend this book if you are a starter. It has plenty of pictures, diagrams which are adequate and correctly chosen for understanding egypt. It even has a hieroglyph reading section. But this book is scholarly minded and organized carefully. Not for magic or egyptian extraterrestrial mambo-jambo seekers nor serious researchers of egypian cryptology and mystery. Oh! Should I say thank you Ms. Hobson.
Completely covers all aspects of Ancient Egyptian cultureChristine Hobson's book is very good. I used it as a textbook for class, but found that the subjects in the book read more like a novel. There is humor, and concentrations on art, daily life, writings, individual archaeologists, etc. It is very interesting, and covers so many subjects!

Acting in the Million Dollar Minute: The Art and Business of Performing in TV Commercials
Published in Paperback by Communications Pr (March, 1984)
Average review score:

The best book I've read for aspiring commercial actors. This is an extremely helpful book for anyone who is interested in acting in commercials. It tells you how to get into the business, and how to succeed. I read this 10 years ago, along with Mr. Logan's other book, "How to Act and Eat at the Same Time", and parlayed the information into a successful career in commercials. I have reccomended this book to many aspiring actors, and have given it to others.

Excellent work which offers interesting insight on languageThis is a great book which offers an interesting view on the role played by the type of language in shaping the kind of thinking an individual/culture carries out -- and determining, to some extent, what an individual/culture can accomplish.

Americas: An Anthology
Published in Paperback by Oxford University Press (June, 1992)
Average review score:

An Excellent Teaching ToolAmericas is an excellent teaching tool when the goal is to make Latin America understandable to students who have been subjected to Anglo-Saxon centrism most of their student lives. This anthology of primary works helps the students to see Latin America as a multi-dimensional place with history and complexity. The book is very readable and I would recommend it for undergraduate students who do not have much previous knowledge of Latin America.
Today, books are written in page-layout format instead of double-spaced courier typeface. Then the pages are converted into Adobe Acrobat (PDF) format for printing and conversion.
Just 500 books are printed using computer-driven high-speed laser printers. The softcover and hardcover books are indistinguishable from traditional ink-printed books. Prices are just slightly higher, per unit, but the quantity (and invoice) is much lower.
PDF and LIT files are generated for reading on eBook readers such as the Pocket PC.
Then finished books are sent to two or three selected agents, a few more are sent to publishers with a track records for that type of book, 3-400 are sent for review to genre-specific magazines, four or five are sent to specialized book clubs, about ten are sent to foreign publishers suggesting translation and a handful are sent to opinion molders in the author's field.
If an agent or publisher comes in with a good offer, the author sells out. If not, all the bases are covered: the book is out for review and the orders are starting to come in.
Most of the book promotion is done via email; the author's web site replaces brochures. The media kit is replaced by a Press Room on the web site. Avoiding printing and postage reduces promotion costs tremendously.
So, the New Book Model is a way to conserve time, inventory space and money while testing the market. More books are not printed until after they are sold. It is no longer necessary to tie up a lot of money and inventory in printed books.
Dan Logan's book cover the marketing and selling of your book. He reveals the three foundational steps, using net tools, developing your online presence, setting up your Web site, putting email to work for you, using newsgroups, creating & marketing eBooks, using Print-On-Demand (POD) services and integrating the Net into your other marketing efforts. Logan does not waste your reading time. He gets right to each point in this short but jam-packed book.
Dan Logan is a hands-on computer consultant, author and publisher. He writes from experience and generously shares what he has learned in these pages.
As the author of 113 books (including revisions and foreign-language editions) and over 500 magazine articles, I highly recommend this volume to publishers DanPoynter@ParaPublishing.com.
